Paul Potters audition for The World Is Not Enough has been widely criticised.
Potts was a regular on the BBC’s Sherlock as well as starring in the James Bond films Die Another Day and Quantum of Solace.
His performance as the spy James Bond in Casino Royale was one of the best in the series and helped the film achieve a worldwide box office record of £9.8 billion ($12.5bn).
But, it has been claimed, the role could have gone to a man called Michael Jackson, who was also considered.
It has also been claimed that a new film was being made for the film and Potts would have had to audition to be part of the project.
Potters’ agent, Ian Fleming, who also represented Ian Fleming and Ian Fleming: The Man Who Killed Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde actor Michael Jackson also had his audition tapes.
The former Bond star has been linked to the role for several years, but was dropped for a while and has not appeared in any other films since.
